This section contains information on Cam Chain Tensioners for the 04-05 Honda TRX450R:

OEM Cam Chain Tensioner (Part #: 14520-HP1-671):

The OEM Honda Cam Chain Tensioner is a very good quality chain tensioner. This tensioner is an Automatic Chain Tensioner. It requires no manual adjustment.

There are some issues with the tensioner though. Some people has had them fail and they cause the cam chain to jump time. If this happens, it could cause the valves to hit the piston, which could easily bend the valves, break the valves, damage the piston, etc.

Web Cams Manual Cam Chain Tensioner (Part #: 111-006-119-CTH02):

This Cam Chain Tensioner is a manual Cam Chain Tensioner built by Web Cams. The Tensioner body is billet aluminum for light weight. This prevents the tensioner from backing out and allowing the cam chain to jump cam timing. This Tensioner is a manual adjustment and requires adjustment often. If you slack on adjusting this tensioner, your cam chain will get to much slack and could jump time (see above for the issues with this happening).
